Smallmouth Bass
This gamefish can be found in the Mississippi River just off the shore from the Park. They typically weigh 1-4 lbs. and eat smaller fish, crayfish, insects and frogs.Cottonwood Trees
These large trees grow especially well along riverways and other periodically flooded areas. Their buds and catkins can serve as food sources for several bird species. Numerous butterfly caterpillars, including Viceroys and Tiger Swallowtails feast on their leaves.Warblers
These small insect-hunting birds migrate through in large numbers in both the spring and fall, many on their way to breeding grounds in the north, but with some species nesting here in the park. They are prized sightings among birders and can present a higher level challenge for species identification. -
