  • The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve Single Track Trails consist of two separate trail loops. These trails are entry level (beginner/green)and are suitable for most riders. Both trails are one-way continuous loops that have a single entry/exit point connecting them to an existing paved trail. Riders will use the paved trails to access the new single track trail loops.

Rice Lake Trail features a few challenging climbs to elevate the heart rate, combined with fun flowing segments at a total length of approximately 1.7 mi.

Sherman Lake Trail is also a flowing design, however, will feature a few jump opportunities and a couple down-hill segments that should add a little thrill for the gravity fans. The Sherman Lake Trail is around 1.8 mi. in length.

  • The Rice Creek Water Trail is a beautiful tributary to the Mississippi River and a fun place to paddle a canoe or kayak. The Rice Creek Water Trail begins in Lino Lakes and extends approximately 15.2 miles to Long Lake in New Brighton.

On its way to the Mississippi River, the Rice Creek Water Trail flows through a variety of habitats and back-drops. The first 7 miles of the water trail, begins at the Peltier Lake public boat launch and makes its way through five lakes before narrowing into the creek. The next section of the creek, travels from Baldwin Lake to Long Lake and meanders through very scenic meadows, under several bridges, and winds through some residential areas ending at Long Lake Regional Park. Along the Rice Creek Water Trail there are several places to launch and take out canoes and kayaks. This allows for a multitude of paddling routes.

Paddlers can pick a route that fits their time frame, paddling ability, and scenery preference.

  • Rice Creek Entrance Road Reconstruction Project: Due to the large scale of the project, the Rice Creek Campground operating season has been shortened to allow crews to fully complete the project during 2024. The entrance road will remain open as a gravel drive throughout the camping season and will be repaved prior to the end of the fall construction season. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we continue to improve the park experience.

Things you should know when camping at Rice Creek

  • American White Pelican
They can often be seen in large flocks off the dock on George Watch Lake at Wargo Nature Center, especially in the spring and early fall.

    Sugar Maple
This native tree often shows up with the American Basswood, in Maple Basswood forests. Known for producing high-sugar sap and displaying stunning fall colors, it is able to survive as a small sapling in intense forest shade until tall enough to receive more sunlight and grow rapidly.

    False Rue Anemone
This spring wildflower blankets the forest floor with its small white flowers in early spring. Like many woodland wildflowers it blooms only for a short period of time (ephemerally) before it is shaded out by the leaves of trees. It can occasionally be found reblooming in the fall.

    Bladderwort
A fairly common carnivorous aquatic plant. They consume their prey by bladder traps which is recognized as one of the most sophisticated structures in the plant kingdom.
