Is Minnesota’s state flower. It is one of 43 orchid species that grow in Minnesota. It often only blooms after 20 years of life and can live to be more than 100 years old.Blanding’s Turtle
The Blanding’s turtle is medium-sized with a smooth, dark, and slightly domed shell. Look for the distinguishing yellow chin and throat. Habitat loss and roads are two of the major factors causing a decline in their population. They are a state threatened species and protected by Minnesota law.Bald Eagle
Under federal protection, the Bald Eagle is a conservation success story and their population in Minnesota is growing each year. Their nests are the largest of any North American bird and can be 5 - 6 feet wide and 2 feet deep.Sandhill Crane
One of Minnesota’s largest birds, standing up to 5 feet tall and having a wingspan of up to 7 feet. They enjoy a variety of small animals like frogs, small mammals, insects, and snakes in addition to small grains like oats and wheat.Bluegill
One of the most widespread fish in Minnesota. They live in ponds, lakes, and slow moving rivers. Interbreeding with other members of the sunfish family make identification often difficult but its’ most distinguishing feature is a dark blue tab at the rear edge of the gill cover. -
