  • Cottonwood Trees
    Some of the fastest growing native trees in North America, growing up to 80 feet tall. Cottonwood “fluff” comes after pollination ends and can blow up to 5 miles away.

    Bur Oak
    One of the most common trees in Minnesota, Bur Oak trees can tolerate a wide range of soil types and moisture levels. There acorns are a food source for wood ducks, turkeys, white-tailed deer, rabbits, mice, and other rodents.

    Beaver
    The largest rodent in North America. When beavers swim, its nose and ear valves shut and a membrane covers its eyes to act as a natural goggle. Their lips also close behind their front teeth, allowing them to carry sticks under water without drowning.

    Smallmouth Bass
    Smallmouth, or “smallies”, are some of the strongest freshwater fish often breaking the surface of the water when hooked, oftentimes performing flips, in an effort to break free. After females lay eggs, the males take on the task of guarding them until they hatch.

    Red-Tailed Hawk
    These birds have a sharp, curved beak helping to tear its’ prey into small bite size pieces. Its’ call is often used as a generic raptor sound in movies and TV shows, even if the bird featured is an eagle or owl.

    Painted Turtle
    The most common turtle in the state of Minnesota. Their shell ranges in color from black to dark green. Painted turtles hibernate under the ice during winter, sometimes buried up to 45 cm in the mud beneath the water.
